HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD SWIPE VASELINE OVER YOUR EYESHADOW

We're not even halfway through "fashion month," and already, a runway trend is emerging: everyone loves the '70s. Specifically, the manic party vibe of a disco inferno that's been everywhere from Marc Jacobs to Diane von Furstenberg, and just this week, at Gareth Pugh and Burberry (again).

To go with the clothes and the music, makeup artists are fond of touting "the glossy lid," a shiny makeup trick that involves a swipe of Vaseline or unused lip balm on top of shadow and liner. But is this just a runway trick, or can you actually make your eye makeup glisten while hitting the dance floor?

Topshop makeup artist Hannah Murray says it's totally possible, "and it adds some glamour that can also be a bit dirty, a bit messed up." Her trick used on Bella Hadid, Malaika Firth, and the rest of Topshop's model army: First, line your top and bottom outer corners with a smudgy black liner likeKajal Kohl. Then take your finger, and gently smear a swipe of shimmery shadow across the entire lid—but nothing above or below it. Finally, use a tube of lip balm that has never been on your mouth (Vaseline works, too) and dab a tiny bit on the top center of each lid. Use less than you think you need, and put it only on the center of your lid. "You don't need to spread it out," Murray explains, "because it will naturally move towards the corners [of the eye], and blur a bit with the black [liner]." Add "claggy mascara," which is basically just clumpy with a British accent. And that's it.

For those wondering if it's really that simple, here's a story: I tried the look this morning before zooming backstage at Burberry. It rained all day. It is currently 10 p.m. in London. My eyes are still glossy... guess that means I'm going out.
Viva la disco?
