Instructions:

Begin by choosing a carrier oil for your homemade body scrub recipe. Yourcarrier oil should be liquid at room temperature to get the proper texture and final product consistency. Choose a carrier oil based on its skin care properties that best meet your own needs. Some of my favorite carrier oils for this recipe areapricot kernel oilsweet almond oilavocado oilhemp seed oilrosehip seed oilsafflower oil and sunflower oil. I specifically used sunflower oil for my own homemade body scrub recipe.
You’ll also need to choose an essential oil for this recipe. I recommend choosing an essential oil that blends well with tea tree oil like lemongrasslavender orrosemary. You can choose this essential oil both for fragrance as well as its skin care properties. I used lemongrass essential oil when making my body scrub. The combination of the essential oils and lavender flower powder will cover the natural scent of neem oil so you won’t even realize it’s in there!
Using a digital scale, begin by weighing out the cocoa butter, shea butter and emulsifying wax. Melt in a double boiler or in a large glass Pyrex measuring cup placed on a canning ring in a pot of water over medium heat on the stove. Once melted weigh out your choice of carrier oil and the neem oil and stir into the melted butters and wax. Mix well to combine and reheat if necessary. (You’ll want to use a non-metal utensil for mixing.)
Now weigh out the clays, arrowroot powder and lavender flower powder. Using asilicone whisk, whisk the powders and clays into the butter, wax and oil mixture. Keep mixing until the base for your homemade body scrub is smooth and creamy and free of clumps.
Next, weigh out the dimethicone and whisk into the body scrub base. (This ingredient is optional. However I chose to use it as it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth and conditioned after rinsing the scrub off. Dimethicone is synthetic silicone and a common ingredient found in hair conditioners, skin protectant lotions and face creams. If you prefer an all natural product it’s fine to leave this out but the end product will feel a little different.)
Using graduated plastic transfer pipettes, measure out the essential oils and whisk into the body scrub mixture.
You’ll now add the final ingredients, the dead sea salt and sugar. Weight out these ingredients and whisk into the body scrub base a little at a time until all of the dead sea salt and sugar have been fully incorporated. Allow the body scrub to cool completely.
Finally, once your homemade body scrub has completely cooled off, mix again then spoon into two 8 oz. containers or one 16 oz. container. (Each 8 oz. container will hold 8.4 oz. by weight of your homemade body scrub.)

You can now label your container(s) of homemade body scrub. I printed out these free “Handmade with Love” labels I found at Everything Etsy here onto full sized sticker label sheets from WorldLabel. (For more free printables be sure tofollow my Printables board on Pinterest.) After printing my labels, I covered the front of them with packing tape so they’d be water resistant, then cut them out and adhered them to the front of my body scrub containers.
To use apply to clean skin in the bath or shower and massage in a circular motion paying extra attention to troublesome spots. Rinse clean then pat dry.
